Piquant Candied Spiced Nuts
A wholesome spicy treat to curb your cravings and maintain your weight. Toasted sesame oil lends its aromatic flavours to the nut mix while chilli flakes add heat, taking this sweet-and-spicy mix to new heights. Scatter these candied spiced nuts over salads or even yoghurt.
Ingredients
Candied Nut Mix
- 1 1/2 cups mixed nuts or peanuts
- 2-3 tbsp honey or pure maple syrup
- 3 tsp sesame chilli oil (see below for recipe)
Sesame Chilli Oil
- 1/4 cup chilli flakes
- 1-2 tbsp Nanami Togarashi (optional)
- 1-2 tsp sugar (optional)
- 1/2 tsp salt (optional)
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Directions
Step 1 In a microwave-proof or heat-resistant bowl, mix chilli flakes, sesame seeds, Nanami Togarashi, salt, and sugar.
Step 2 Heat oil in a pan for 2 minutes, then carefully pour over the mixture. Stir well to combine.
Step 3 Roast peanuts in a non-stick pan. Add honey or maple syrup, sesame chilli oil, and salt, if desired. Cook until caramelised, being careful not to burn.
Step 4 Transfer onto parchment paper or an oiled surface to cool. Take a moment to savour the aromas, flavours, colours, and textures of your homemade creation. Enjoy mindfully!
