Rich, Savoury Bone Broth
Though bone broth takes time to make, it is worth all the effort since it is highly nourishing for your body. From promoting joint health and supporting your immune system to improving gut health and skin elasticity, bone broth is a delicious nutritional powerhouse. Incorporate rich savoury bone broth in your meal prep to make your dishes more nutritious and robust in flavour.
Ingredients
- Bones/bone marrow from beef, chicken or fish
- Carrots, celery and onions or preferred choice of vegetables (Optional: herbs/spices, vinegar or lemon juice)
Directions
Step 1 Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roast bones on a baking sheet for 30-40 minutes. This adds flavour and depth to your broth.
Step 2 Transfer bones to a large pot or slow cooker. Add vegetables, herbs, spices, and vinegar or lemon juice.
Step 3 Cover the ingredients with water and simmer on low heat for 12-36 hours depending on how rich you would like the broth to be.
Remember to skim off any impurities that rise to the surface when the broth starts to warm up. This will prevent the broth from turning cloudy and ensure its flavour is not affected.
Step 4 Strain broth through a fine-mesh strainer. Let cool and store in airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze the broth for future use.
We suggest freezing the broth flat in freezer bags for easy storage or in ice cube trays if you would like more control over how much you would like to use. This also prevents wastage.
