Ingredients :
- 1 can (400 g) low-sodium black beans, drained & rinsed
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup ripe banana, mashed (~120 g, about 1 medium banana)
- 10 medjool dates, pitted (~140 g)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (~5 mL)
- ½ cup cacao powder (~50 g)
- ½ tsp baking soda (~2 g)
- ¼ tsp salt (~1.5 g)
- ¼ cup chocolate chips (~45 g)
Method :
- Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Line a 15 × 15 cm baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a food processor, blend black beans, eggs, banana, dates, vanilla, cacao powder, baking soda, and salt until smooth.
- Add 1–2 tbsp water if mixture is too thick.
- Pour batter into the prepared dish.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes. Check at 28 minutes with a toothpick (it should come out with moist crumbs, not fully clean).
- Let cool slightly before slicing into 10 squares.
Success Tips :
- For less sweetness : Swap in an extra banana and reduce the dates.
- For extra flavor : Caramelize the banana with 1 tsp maple syrup or honey before blending.
- Don’t overbake : Brownies continue cooking while cooling.
- Warm before serving : Warm a slice for a few seconds before serving to melt the chocolate topping.
