Ingredients :

  1. 1 can (400 g) low-sodium black beans, drained & rinsed
  2. 2 large eggs
  3. ½ cup ripe banana, mashed (~120 g, about 1 medium banana)
  4. 10 medjool dates, pitted (~140 g)
  5. 1 tsp vanilla extract (~5 mL)
  6. ½ cup cacao powder (~50 g)
  7. ½ tsp baking soda (~2 g)
  8. ¼ tsp salt (~1.5 g)
  9. ¼ cup chocolate chips (~45 g)

Method :

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Line a 15 × 15 cm baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, blend black beans, eggs, banana, dates, vanilla, cacao powder, baking soda, and salt until smooth.
  3. Add 1–2 tbsp water if mixture is too thick.
  4. Pour batter into the prepared dish.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes. Check at 28 minutes with a toothpick (it should come out with moist crumbs, not fully clean).
  7. Let cool slightly before slicing into 10 squares.

Success Tips :

  1. For less sweetness : Swap in an extra banana and reduce the dates.
  2. For extra flavor : Caramelize the banana with 1 tsp maple syrup or honey before blending.
  3. Don’t overbake : Brownies continue cooking while cooling.
  4. Warm before serving : Warm a slice for a few seconds before serving to melt the chocolate topping.
